I learned allot from doing this portrait. But sadly for all my effort, I don't think this piece is a winner for the sole reason its not imaginative, nor did I really give Barnabas a make over.
I don't know where all my creativity went while I was painting this piece, but it never came. And the few ideas I did have, I either didn't know how to execute without compromising the picture, or felt like it would it made it look crappy.
I really wanted to do more with this painting...
At least I no longer loathe it like i did sometime after starting with his face. I cringed so much that my jaw cramped.
Hopefully I could do something by Tuesday to fix that problem.
There might be some minor edits and changes right till the due date.
Painted in corel using worn pastel brush.
edit: 4/22/12, made some some minor tweaks. Edit 2:4/23/12, touched up the face some more, and added a eyes in the back ground. One for each relative. Edit 3: 4/24/12: Touched up his face again, and his clothes a bit. Edit 4: 4/24/12: Touched up his face and clothes again, and touched up his hair.
Although he looks like a mix of old and new, I think you did a good job of capturing a lot of the original Barnabus's features. I think this is very good, and remember that Barnabus is a very dry and stiff person, at least in the original soap opera.
At least he's that way when he presents himself to others. Underneath, he is highly emotional and Jonathon Frid did a great job of portraying that emotional conflict.
